Christmas Decor!

I am so excited to have our Christmas decorations finished! We made Christmas trees for our Bulletin board and Our singing Reindeer is singing "Oh Christmas Tree!". We have our Christmas Tree up and decorated. Now on to making our homemade ornaments!!

Dec. 9-13

Hi! This week and next week is going to be super busy!! It's that time of year though=) Over Christmas break, I will be sending home a reading packet and math packet with a few of the students. Please be sure your child practices these packets over the break. We are going to be DIBELed as soon as we come back. The goal for your child is reading 72 words in a minute. Please have your child READ, READ, READ over Christmas break. They can read anything and everything. It is all practice!

This week we are reading Anansi Goes Fishing. The story comprehension test will be on Thursday. Be sure your child is reading this story each night=)

In spelling we are working with compound words. Remind your child to break the word apart and spell the smaller words. This may make it easier to spell the large compound word!

1. basketball
2. someone
3. weekend
4. something
5. birthday
6. riverbank
7. bathtub
8. backyard
9. driveway
10. bedtime
11. raindrop
12. mailbox
13. grandparent
14. rattlesnake
15. earthquake

We are studying 2-digit subtraction in math. We are in Chapter 5. Please keep practicing going at home! We are learning to regroup (borrow) when subtracting.

Over the next two weeks, we will be doing our Christmas Around the World unit. This is a wonderful unit to help teach about other cultures and how Christmas is celebrated in other ways. We will also be learning about other holidays during this same time.

Our Christmas Party is coming up! I will be providing stockings for the students with a gift inside. I have asked that you send some stocking stuffers to help fill them up! The cost should only be around $5.00. We have 19 students. Please don't send candy. I will take care of treats.

The Christmas Party time is 8:00. You can check your child out, but you will need your green visor card. If you don't have the visor card, you will need to bring your ID and check your child out in the office. This is school policy and it will be followed on Friday=) This is a "heads-up"! We would also like for you to join us for the party. We ask that no younger siblings are brought. We just won't have much room for parents, your children, and the party supplies!

If you would like to help with the party, We are going to be eating breakfast foods. Please send in a note with what you can supply for the party. Things like donut holes, fruit, cheese cubes, crackers, muffins, and cinnamon rolls would be great!
