Veteran's Day!

We were out of school on Friday, November 11 in honor of the many veterans who have served to protect our freedom. We would like to thank all the veterans who sacrifice(d) time with their families, risk(ed) their lives, and work(ed) so hard to protect our freedom in this great country. THANK YOU!

Superhero Day and Pumpkin Carving

We celebrated the last week of October by carving pumpkins! The kiddos LOVED digging into the pumpkin, pulling out the insides and sorting the seeds. They sorted the seeds into groups of 10, then again in to groups of 100, to figure out how many seeds were in 3 pumpkins. The students counted over 1600 seeds! We also finished our Red Ribbon Week celebration with trick-or-treating and Superhero costumes!

Contraction Surgery, Emoji Origami, & A Play!

This week we learned about Contractions by conducting "contraction surgery". We also made a "contractipillar" and compared numbers with candy corn. We had some special guests visit and they taught us how make an emoji origami bookmark. The kids ❤️ it! (See what I did there😜.) On Friday, we reviewed place vaule with Cheez-its, pretzel sticks, and M&Ms. Who doesn't love food?! It makes math "delicious"! We ended the week with James & the Giant Peach! The Little Aggies Theatre did an amazing job!

Homecoming Week & Football Readers

We showed our Aggie Pride for Homecoming Week! Monday we wore all black to "Black-Out the Panthers", Wednesday we dressed as our favorite Disney Characters to "Knock 'em Dizz-ney", and Friday we wore our best Aggie attire to cheer on our Senior football readers!

Cause and Effect & some Marshmallow math!

We are learning about cause and effect this week. Today we matches up some causes with their results! The kiddos loved it! We also made arrays with mini-marshmallows. Who doesn't love a little food with their math?!

Full STEAM ahead!

Last night was our first STEAM night. We worked with our community to host a night of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math activities for parents and kids! It was a great night! I think the parents had as much fun as the kids!

Math Cubes, Landforms, & Farm Day, Oh My!

This week has been full of fun learning experiences! The students compared and contrasted {many} versions of Little Red Riding Hood. They partnered up and added with math cubes. They researched animals and landforms. Mrs. Rains' class created landforms using materials found in the classroom and then held presentations for the class. Mrs. Stanley's class used shaving cream to practice phonics skills! Friday was Farm Day! We had a "family" (our 2nd grade family: Ms. Turk, Mrs. Foley, Mrs. Rains, & Mrs. Stanley) dance party to begin the day. The AHS FFA students hosted our Farm Day. It was awesome! We continued our "family" fun by making homemade butter to slather on mini-corn muffins. We had apple juice to wash it down! We ended the day with our homemade, Ziplock bag ice cream. Whew! What a week!

Indoor Camp-Out!

Friday was such a fun day! It was all about camping! There were tents, stars, (stuffed) wild anmials, flashlights, and a camp fire (because what is a camp-out without a fire!). The students read inside the tents, under the stars, and with flashlights!

Class Critters

I am NOT a critter person, but Mrs. Stanley is! So, that means we have classroom critters for a few days each week. Our first critter was Stump, the walking stick {see pictures below}. The kiddos were able to hold Stump. He was quite gentle. The second critter we had was a {scary-to-me, cool-to-the-kids} spider. (There are no pictures because spiders are something I can't stand!!!) The kiddos just admired it through the critter container. Our critter this week is a praying mantis {see pictures below}. The kiddos have enjoyed learning about these classroom critters. I am so very glad Mrs. Stanley enjoys hosting them in her classroom so the students can have real-life learning experiences. Lots of research has occurred because of our classroom critters!

*Please note: only safe critters will be handled by the students. All others will only be admired through a critter container.

Aliens came to visit!

The kiddos worked so hard on creating aliens from recycled plastic bottles, tissue paper and pipe cleaners. They wrote about their aliens, as well, giving them names, homes, and missions! They presented their aliens when completed. They had a blast and we did too!

Aug. 29-Sept. 2

This week has been a blast! We learned all about space, completed a research paper using the iPads and non-fiction text, created catapults using only cups, tape, spoons, and rubber bands, designed our own aliens then wrote a description about them, AND cut up magazines for a noun sort, ALL while learning about consonant blends, character & setting, nouns, and place value to the hundreds place! This bunch is amazing and such hard workers!
